Greer - Had Enough
Greer formed in late 2018 when bassist Seth Thomson met drummer Lucas Ovalle at a show where Seth was performing alongside guitarist Corbin Jacques. After their meeting and starting to write songs together, they decided to bring in Josiah, which shaped the band into what it is. Following their first official show at the iconic Los Angeles venue, The Smell, they made significant traction in the local music scene and subsequently signed to Epitaph Records in 2020.
With Emergency Intercom's Drew Phillips and Enya Umanzor, Josiah established an influential and recognizable presence on social media. They occasionally record their own videos and present podcasts, which allows fans to interact with them in an entertaining and intimate way while also giving them a look inside.
After releasing a number of songs and EPs, the band decided to walk away from the spotlight to focus on their recording process and their own development. Greer gave a peek into fresh material with the impassioned, acoustic-centered track "audio_77." It features Josiah, the frontman on a bed surrounded by an array of lamps with a worn brick wall as the backdrop.
With people on their tip-toes, the release of their latest track, "Had Enough," which came out on January 16, takes us back into Greer's world and the journey that they go on through their songwriting.
The tune begins with diminishing and whining guitar feedback given by Corbin Jacques, followed by the pounding of drums-by Lucas Ovalle. Behind this there is a steady, anchor like bass rhythm flowing out of Seth Thompsons fingertips. Josiah's vocals are rhythmic and significant giving as a revitalizing reminder of the band's distinctive sound.
Greer had stated in an interview with Northern Transmissions that it’s a track about the different struggles pets go through when first meeting their owners.
The song goes from an upbeat, loud few moments to hard-hitting, leisure-like sections, creating a contrast that keeps us reeled in. These shifts in tempo and potency provide you with a minute in between to come down from the invigorating high generated by the band members. Their incredible ability to give the track such a vast feel lets it be known that every part of the song resonates, allowing for you to really understand Greer and what the members give to you.
It's undeniable the ability that Seth, Josiah, Corbin, and Lucas have to bring you in, getting your attention and leaving you wanting to hit repeat time and time again. I definitely say that you do so, as it allows you to give yourself and your conscience to the song and appreciate its nuances. I can't wait to see what’s in store, and I'm intrigued to hear just how much farther they’ll go on their journey.
